What does the future hold??

Well it's has been a difficult couple of years and until the general election is out of the way it is difficult to see how the housing market is shaping up.

As ever, before a general election (always held when we should be busiest) the market slows down, and this year is no exception. It is wholly understandable that people thinking about moving house hang on to see the outcome. They are all asking themselves, Will taxes be raised? What will happen to the stamp duty threshold? What will happen to HIPS? Questions all waiting to be answered before the public decided to splash out on a new house.

A recent investigation by one of the UK's leading estate agents Your Move into how the housing market reacts to an election claims that a good turnout and a Tory defeat could devastate the housing market.

The research going back to 1979 shows that a slump in transactions generally follows a good turnout, where as a low turnout stimulates the market. Your Move also found that when the Tories do well there is an increase in activity in the housing market.

I think that there is a little more to this and it’s a shame the research didn't take into account the economic situation at the time.

So for a good end to 2010 we need a low turnout and a Tory victory to get everyone moving again, let's wait and see.

I'd be interested to hear how you think the outcome of the election has affected the market. Has it made people sit on the fence just like the politics?

At last there appears to be some movement in the removal market, enquiries have picked up, just need the mortgage companies to slacken off a bit

Oh I think you have to take into account what's going on with the economy and the housing market to get a decent picture of what's going on, else how can you plan a business?

Your blog is certainly some food for though since the company I work for do Kensington Removals

I think the housing market was bound to be affected by the election. People don't want to make high risk investments when the future is not stable. There was talk of severe cuts even before the election took place, so I think it was the talk of cuts that discouraged people most rather than the election itself.

I think we have to pray for good politicians to get out of this slump. Other we will be down in a few months...

Definitely economic situation should be the first that should be taken into account so that there will be low turnout. So there is lot more to do in future for success.

It certainly is a tricky time at the moment, living costs are generally high but then it's hard to borrow to get a mortgage. One thing that I think people overlook when moving is the importance of conveyancing, can save a lot of hassle.

Certainly would appear there are some people moving - there is more demand for storage as we are finding people are having to move farther afield to pick up work that may not be available to them locally.

Still 50/50 on the economy but we are still getting demand for storage from people moving. The moving house market may be down but its not out!

Defiantly inflation rate increases day by day, every day poor becomes more poor and rich becomes richer, and yeah change in politics depends on economic condition.

Wimbledon Removal said...

It's true we should think about economic condition at the time of moving, we have a knowledge that when we moving than what rate of taxes we have to pay there, is it effect on our politics or not, That’s why moving is not a easy task.

Yeah economic condition really depends upon election, it changes with the new political party, and defiantly your blog has an amazing idea in it.

Greta article, and still relevant now at the start of 2012! The fear of a double dip remains as does the mixed blessing of low interest rates... wish there were more options for first time buyers though!!

I could not agree more, especially about the fact that the market slowed down!

I agree with this post. The situation is very critical. The demand of money is consistently increasing but its supply is decreasing due to unemployment, increase in expenses etc. We pray to God for the good of this world..
